About the Business

After serving in the Vietnam War, Jay Dykeman returned to Portland with $1500 to his name. He rented a Texaco station in Southeast Portland and began his auto repair business in September of 1971. Having no formal training, Jay started reading auto repair manuals and never looked back. As Jay says, "It was a good thing that I'm a reader."

In 1980, Jay moved his garage to its current location on the corner of 7th and Morrison in Southeast Portland. Jay became known as the Honda and Subaru repair expert of Portland. In the early 1990's, Jay quickly embraced advances in computer technology and updated his garage to correctly service the new computerized cars. The auto service needs were changing fast, and Jay shifted focus to proper preventative maintenance aided by computer chips than engine overhauls or exchanges.

Jay's Garage is a family-owned full service automotive repair shop and gas station. Conveniently located in the heart of Portland's central eastside on the corner of SE 7th and Morrison, we have been servicing and repairing cars, trucks, vans and SUVs since 1981. All our mechanics are certified Master Technicians by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Our technicians also have years of experience in all areas of car maintenance and repair and are always up to speed and equipped to deal with the ever-changing automotive technologies.

Miles D. (Manager)

Miles has worked for Jay's Garage since 2002. He is an ASE Certified Master Technician and has been working on cars for over 30 years. Miles is an expert in many fields of diesel engines, import and domestic diagnostics and repairs, and even exhaust systems. He has recently taken on the Shop Manager role and still is very active as a Master Technician. If you have a car-related question, please come into the garage and get your questions answered.
