About the Business

In 1981, a whimsically-inclined, twenty-something Italian-American ingénue put her creative hooks and inspiration from travels abroad (teemed with her not-so-faraway restaurant experience) into a surreal cellar of a space that became equal parts Bohemian loft, Trattoria, and Pigalle cabaret. La Padrona Jacquelina Di Roberto wasted no time filling the place with artistic touches, a seasonally changing menu of hearty, honest, Italian-American food and wine, spirited service and eccentric, alluring entertainment.

The Pink Door quickly brought a new spark to her end of what was an otherwise dull Post Alley. An engaging set of kindred spirits, friends and loved ones soon gathered for a soulful respite of food and drink.

Over 40 years later, The Pink Door is still as lively and convivial as its owner. Since opening, a new generation has spawned to the stoop of our surreal portal.

Established in 1981.
