About the Business

Stockwell Street, where The Scotia is situated, is one of the four original streets in Glasgow. In 1792 when the Scotia was established, the Clyde was a vibrant and thriving waterway and we were a popular port of call for many of the sailors going up and down the river. In those days 2.5 million people a year were using the penny ferries, many going to work at various places along the Clyde, some going as far downriver as Renfrew.
In 1862, The Scotia Variety and Music Hall opened right next door and the bar would then have been thronged with theatergoers and performers. Perhaps this was where The Scotia's love affair with music began. In later years the theatre changed its name to The Metropole and became one of Glasgow's best loved variety theatres. Those theatergoers would feel right at home in The Scotia today because the interior of the pub has changed very little since the late 1920s.

Established in 1792.

Specialties

Ask anyone in Glasgow to name a pub and many of them will say The Scotia. We have been serving the people of Glasgow for over two hundred years and most Glaswegians have paid us a visit at some time in their lives. If you like to eat home cooked food in cosy pub which oozes old world charm, then The Scotia is the place for you. We serve a wide range of good quality beers and ales including our own Belhaven Best. If you prefer something a little stronger then we have a fantastic range of spirits and liqueurs and in keeping with our traditional values we stock a good range of malt whiskies from all over Scotland. If you like to mix your food and drink with great company and good live music then step through our doors. We have the very best bands playing in Glasgow and four days a week you can hear anything from rock to country, from blues to folk. Music is our passion and that's what makes us one of Glasgow's premier live music venues. But if you prefer to do it for yourself then come along with your guitar or even your spoons and we're sure you'll find someone ready and willing to jam with you. Most Scotia folk love a good singsong and we keep a pub guitar handy just in case the notion takes us.
