About the Business

When Suphi Akyurt started his career as a hairstylist in Izmir,Turkey in 1965 he never envisioned that one day he would be called Head of what would become the Akyurt Hair Dynasty.
Father to seven sons, he passed this trade down to his eldest, Mehmet who took the family business to the next level, opening multiple successful Salons across Istanbul.
From there, Mehmet's younger brothers, Eyuptand Sinan rooted the family's enterprise in the heart of the Caribbean, St. Maarten.
Within short they established their masterful and creative skills. The brothers loved customizing their styling skills to fit their customer's needs and became the number one hair salon on the Island.
After time Eyup and Sinan developed working relationships with celebrity salons in New York. Falling in love with the city they decided to further expand the dynasty by bringing their expertise to city permanently, giving birth to PAPYON.

With 15 years of experience, as youngest of 7 brothers, growing up he learned the skills of hair design from his older brothers including his father Suphi A. who started the family business. He opened his first salon when he was 18, trained with European hair artists and moved to the Caribbean when he was 20 to start working in his brother's salon, known by many as the best salon in St. Maarten. After 2 successful years they opened a second location, and started their own product line. Having spent 5 years on the exotic island providing services to private boats and houses, Sinan decided to move to NYC and open a new location. After working on Madison Ave. for some time, he fell in love with New York and opened his first salon in South Brooklyn. After 4 years of building amazing clientele, he moved into the heart of Brooklyn, on Bedford ave. And since March 2015, has been hosting his clients in his cozy hair studio/barbershop/bar with its own line of specialty hair care.
