About the Business

El Chorro was originally built in 1934 as the Judson School for Girls and in 1937 it was converted to a restaurant and lodge. Clark Gable, John Wayne, Barry Goldwater and other prominent figures visited the Lodge in its early days. Guests of the nearby Camelback Inn frequently followed the special desert path between the two establishments to enjoy El Chorro's noted Classroom Bar.

El Chorro's iconic setting at the base of Camelback & Mummy Mountains offers an authentic Arizona desert setting where generations of Valley residents and visitors alike come to savor classic, Southwestern-inspired cuisine. The restaurant and event venues have recently been restored, renovated and enhanced to further preserve this landmark's rustic charm.
