"La Adelita" is the folk tale of a young woman who fell in love with a sergeant during the Mexican Revolution, left her humble home behind, and traveled with him and his regiment. "La Adelita" became an archetype of a woman warrior during this era. She was a soldadera, or woman soldier, who took on various supporting roles to her beloved. She prepared meals, mended clothing, cared for the wounded, and even fought in battles against Mexican government forces. With the passage of time, the word "Adelita" came to be used for all of the soldaderas, marking their place in history as a vital force in the Mexican revolutionary war efforts. The term "La Adelita" symbolizes a brave, altruistic woman with an abundance of strength and courage.
