About the Business

The Colonnade where the The Volks is located was built approximately 100 years ago when the nearby Aquarium extended its sun terrace above. The venue's had a few names over the years including The Chain Pier Bar, as it is situated directly below where the old chain pier used to be. It's currently named after the inventor of the first electric railway in this country, Magnus Volk. A local euntereprenuer, Mr Volk built the railway on the beach opposite where the venue is now and ran the business, driving the trains himself on occasions. The trains still run during the summer. We didn't change the name when we took over as we found out 'Volks' also means 'for the people' in German. This sits perfectly with what the Volks is all about, a place for anyone and everyone, a venue of variety of customers, musical styles, events and staff. The venue was called the Volks Tavern (and still is called this by many ), but we dropped the 'tavern' bit a while back as the Volks evolved .......

The Volks is located on Brighton Seafrontand has been leading the way in new and underground club nights in Brighton for over 15 years. Offering 2 rooms of unpretentious, unadulterated clubbing. If you're looking for that jumping, party atmosphere, make sure you pay us a visit! We have a varied line up of club nights to suit a wide variety of tastes and whether you're looking for drum n bass or jungle, psy trance or techno, funk, reggae, hip hop or breaks, we've probably got a quality night on to suit. We also host an increasing amount of live bands. We also open daytimes in the summer so you can laze the day away in our outdoor seating area opposite the beach, with a fresh ground cappuccino or a long cool jug of pimms, or even just a plain old ice cold beer and some fresh sea air. We now also have a full menu ranging from free range breakfasts to waffles & bagels, to gourmet burgers & sharing platters plus loads more. We also have free hi speed wi fi access for those that need it!
