About the Business

The Rice Box is Modern American Chinese Cuisine.

Originating in Houston in 2011 The Rice Box planted its roots on a corner in The Montrose district where it has had the privilege of serving reinvented Chinese classics weekly ever since.

While opening the second truck in 2013 to operate at a local University of Housto, there was a reawakening of Chinese food happening; it was the right time to open our first permanent location and bring everyone delicious, elevated American Chinese take-out classics like General Tso, Sesame, Sweet Sour and Kung Pao Chicken our way, ALL the time, in any weather, every day!

Per our good friend Jack Burton, we must pay our dues.

Please be our guest and let us introduce you to our take on Modern American Chinese.

Let us feed you. 太好了!

Established in 2011.

Business Owner

John P. (Business Owner)

John's travels to China lead to a passion for the cuisine, and while it serves as the basis for the fare served at his food truck, Peterson has added his own palate-pleasing American twist. The thematic design elements of the brand identity, as well as the new brick and mortar locations, align with his unique vision where historic American chinatown culture (reference: "Big Trouble in Little China") meets futuristic dystopian cyberpunk (reference: "Blade Runner").
