About the Business

The Melrose Grill is an antique saloon from 1901 complete with original bar and hand placed mosiac tile floor. Funded by the Alaskan gold rush, Englishman, Ben Atkinson built a 3-story hotel, cafe, and saloon. This 60 room hotel was a succsessful watering hole for many Renton area coal miners and brick factory workers. During prohibition the Melrose did not see any diminishing popularity as it changed its draw to a pool hall, card room and soda parlor. Place speculated rumors here.... Unfortunately, in 1928 most of the Melrose was burned from fire leaving only what we have here today. Our small 20 table steakhouse. During the 1970's the Melrose flourished as a popular tavern and was owned by Boone "Boom Boom" Kirkman. A heavyweight prizefighter who fought many great heavyweights of his day. (He is seen fighting George Forman on youtube.com) That fight didn't fare well for Boom Boom but business at the Melrose spilled into the streets! In 2002 we opened as a steakhouse.

The Melrose Grill offers an alternative to "downtown" dining using high quality ingredients, first class service, and a relaxing neighborhood feel. Our hero product is our Nebraska, corn-fed, 28 day aged beef. After many taste tests we have found this product to rival all others in flavor, tenderness, and consistency. From there we add in-house cooking practices so rare in restaurants today and easily noticed in each of our recipes. We also pride ourselves on our fresh seafood specials and our Washington-heavy wine list.
