About the Business

Owners Dr. Joshua M. Smith and Executive Chef Stomi Smith started out with a restaurant on Grand Island after returning from 13 years in Japan. After 2 years there they moved the restaurant and made changes to the food and style with SATO in the heart of the Elmwood Village. With a passion for ramen and soups, they have brought authentic and creative ramen to Buffalo. Satomi grew up in Japan in her family's successful ramen restaurant in her hometown of Fukui. Her uncle also has a restaurant of the same name, Ichiryu, in the trendy Shimo-Kitazawa, Tokyo.

SATO was just awarded "Best New Restaurant of WNY- 2014". We specialize in modern Japanese cuisine with dishes ranging from ramen to sushi. We also feature many creative dishes using local items in combination with rare Japanese ingredients. From pork belly to wagyu steak to tsukemono pickled local and Japanese vegetables. We also feature a wide variety of sake, wine, Japanese craft beer, and Japanese whisky with many fresh and creative Japanese cocktails.
