About the Business

We started this business in the basement of the owners home in 2015. We quickly outgrew this home studio and needed a larger space. In 2017 we signed a lease on a beautiful little jewelbox of a building in Sellwood, Portland. The business started as a primarily wholesale business and has slowly become more about selling directly to our consumer as well as working with with beautiful boutiques around the country and around the world. Our work can now be found in 12 other countries.

Sarah Van Raden is a full time potter and business owner of Notary Ceramics. She started this business in 2015 in an effort to spend more time at home with her two small children and to focus her creative energies on something she truly loved. After working for nearly a decade as a photo stylist she is happy to have left that world in favor of running her small business and making beautiful ceramics.
