About the Business

We were founded by Allen & Elna Metcalf, in the shadow of the Hamm's Brewery building on Minnehaha Ave, in 1919. Elna set up moves from the kitchen, and Allen designed and built the first moving truck body on an REO Speed Wagon (the truck, not the band).

Their son, Allen Metcalf Jr., purchased the business from his father in 1951, after returning from the Korean conflict. We became an agent for Mayflower Transit in 1967 and opened an office in Rochester, MN in 1972.

After working for Metcalf Moving & Storage for 31 years, Jon Archbold purchased the company in 2003. Under his leadership, we have won many service awards from Mayflower, and are the only mover in Minnesota to have received the Integrity Award (now Torch Award) from the Better Business Bureau.
