About the Business

Love & Carrots is a woman-owned company that started with one woman and a pickup truck. Since then, we have installed over 1,200 productive vegetable gardens and beautiful landscapes in the DC, MD, and VA area. Our maintenance and coaching team can teach you how to grow your own vegetables at home, and our experienced gardeners have completed thousands of vegetable plantings for residents and businesses in the DC Metro area. Love & Carrots can transform your yard, rooftop, deck or balcony into an edible oasis, complete with native and pollinator-friendly landscaping, hardscaping, pergolas, trellising, and much more.

Founder Meredith Sheperd has an extensive background in landscaping and design, small organic farming, and environmental science. She has been working in sustainable agriculture for many years. Before founding Love & Carrots she spent several seasons managing Chailey Farm in Virginia, which produces organic herbs and vegetables for high end DC restaurants City Zen, and The Sou'wester. Meredith shares her passion for growing food by spending her winters farming and teaching agricultural classes at an orphanage in Guatemala.
