About the Business

Avila's serves a collection of recipes that can be traced back to founders Anita and Octavio Avila's Mexican and Texan roots. Anita's father owned and operated a grocery store in Little Mexico (the area near McKinnon and Harry Hines Blvd. close to the American Airlines Center). Sunday morning specials included menudo and lengua. Octavio was born in Parral Chihuahua and raised in Monterrey, near the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental. His culinary contributions reflect both northeastern and frontier Mexican-style dishes.

Over the years, Anita and Octavio lovingly prepared these recipes for their children and grandchildren, centering family gatherings around delicious dishes. In 1986 and at retirement age, Anita and Octavio decided, with their children's help, to fulfill their lifelong dream of opening a restaurant.

Welcome to Avila's Mexican Restaurant, a Dallas favorite for 25 years. Avilas serves traditional dishes such as, mole, posole, tamales, brisket tacos, to name just a few, with a homestyle flare. We've added a new grill in the kitchen, fresh paint and have plans to build a new patio, but our menu remains the same. We continue to use the tried and true recipes, passed down throughout the generations within the Avila and Martinez families, and those developed by Anita and her daughter Anna Maria when the doors opened in 1985. The Avila family tradition continues, serving their favorite dishes to customers and family alike. We look forward to seeing you at our table!
