About the Business

Yellow Wagon Landscaping opened its doors while owners John Freitag and Andrew Lala were middle schoolers in Ridgefield, NJ. Without drivers' licenses, they faithfully pulled a yellow wagon up hills and around town to serve their landscaping clients. Growing their business steadily throughout high school, a reputation of quality and reliable service was earned, and the foundation for what would become the current company was laid. Upon graduating high school, they chose to close their business in order to pursue degrees in landscape architecture and industry so that one day they could reopen stronger and smarter. In 2010 those doors re-opened, infused with a contemporary vocabulary of design and practice, but rooted in a tradition of experience and values.

Andrew is cofounder and lead landscape designer of Yellow Wagon Landscaping. He holds a Bacherlor's of Landscape Architecture from the University of Maryland, College Park and has been a team member of landscape architecture firms in Northern VA, NYC and Northern NJ.  Additionally, he has served as a resident engineer for the international construction management firm Hill International, where he was charged with project management duties of the Million Trees NYC and Green Streets initiatives of the NYC Parks Dept.  In 2008, Andrew travelled to Germany to participate in a 3-month cooperative landscape architecture program between The Technical University of Munich and Rutgers University.
