Wasteland started in a 1200 sq ft storefront in Berkeley, California at the top of University Ave. The company expanded to its Haight Street location in 1989. Its flagship Melrose store opened in 1993 and quickly became a destination for designers, stylists and celebrities.

Wasteland opened its Studio City location in 2012 and its Highland Park location in 2022.
