About the Business

Prior to the name "Vista 18″, our rooftop restaurant was called the "Parrot House Restaurant" in honour of a very real and lovely parrot named Louis. Louis was a special bird, and enjoyed the life of the rich and famous. Many years ago he was removed from his lofty and private life to a place of seclusion where he peacefully lived out the rest of his life. Despite the erosion of inflation at the time, his pension arrangement was more than adequate to meet his daily requirements. But the story of Louis the parrot goes beyond the simple story of a bird born to privilege. Louis was actually a gift to Miss Victoria Jane Wilson on her 5th birthday in 1882. The daughter of the family which lived on the property that we, the Chateau Victoria, currently reside on, Miss Wilson was thrilled at her father's choice of gift.

The chateau Victoria Hotel in downtown Victoria, BC is happy to announce that Vista 18 Restaurant + Lounge is reopening on June 11, 2020 to celebrate 20 years of service to Victoria diners. The popular view restaurant closed on January 2 for an extensive renovation which concluded on March 13th, within days of our province shutting down restaurants and bars due to COVID 19. This means we are brand new and excited to show off our new look! Our service will start out for dinner and drinks on Wednesdays through Sundays, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm (11:00 pm in the lounge). We hope to expand to include breakfast and lunch service shortly afterwards, as well as Clive's Classic Lounge on our lobby level. Our new Vista 18 explores the bounty of our region by working with the best farmers and fishermen BC has to offer. Not shy about infusing a global approach to our island home, Vista 18 is sure to please with cuisine that is Authentic, Local and Elevated....
