About the Business

We opened our doors on February 29, 2024 -- a leap day celebration. Started by Steve Fox, Urban Putt's first location opened in San Francisco in 2014 and then expanded to Denver in 2019, quickly gaining an enthusiastic fanbase, with 4.5+ star ratings. Both of those locations were sold to Australian company Funlab in 2023, which rebranded them as Holey Moley, meaning the San Jose location is the last Urban Putt in existence. For Urban Putt San Jose, Fox decided to pull out all the stops, with the most ambitious golf hole designs and audacious decor the UP team had ever attempted.

Established in 2024.

Business Owner

Steve F. (Business Owner)

After a 35-year career in journalism (Omni magazine, CNET, PC World, and many more), I quit my job to follow my dream: To open an indoor mini-golf restaurant/bar in San Francisco. A huge risk at the time, Urban Putt was a resounding success, ultimately leading to Urban Putt Denver, which opened in late 2019. Both locations were hit hard by COVID, especially UP San Francisco, which was closed for 13 months. Shortly after we returned, I was approached by Funlab, a company that operates many Holey Moley indoor mini-golf courses in Australia, about buying Urban Put SF and Denver. After the trauma of the pandemic, I was ready to sell. But I knew I had at least one more mega-project in me. And here it is: Urban Putt San Jose, the most ambitious undertaking I've ever attempted -- 13,000 square feet of sheer invention and the craziest mini-golf holes my team and I could envision. I'm hoping you'll enjoy it as much as we relished creating it.
