About the Business

After years of personal training and health club management at large corporate gyms, co-owners Heidi Shalek and Maren Kravitz developed a fitness facility that combines personal and small group training with group classes under one roof without the hassle of a monthly membership fee or a yearly contract. In July 2009, The Training Room opened its doors in Somerville offering the local community a smaller more personalized approach to health and fitness training.

Specialties

At The Training Room, we design programs personalized to the clients needs, goals and schedules. Each trainer takes the time to complete a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) to better asses a clients posture and fitness ability before engaging in any training. Through safe and effective training, a client will not only see results, but will learn first hand about the connection between fitness in both the mind and body. Our virtual group classes which include: 50/50, KB Training and Circuit Training, are taught by certified coaches who are able to tailor a class to meet all fitness levels in a safe and effective environment. We recommend that all new class participants sign up for Circuit Training, which is our foundational strength class, in order to gain clearance for higher level class and kettlebell training. No monthly membership or contract is required to train with us. All class reservations can be made ahead of time by reserving your space online. Be sure to check our monthly schedule for additional class times.

In 2009, Maren co-founded The Training Room. Since then, her commitment to her clients and the community has never wavered. As a personal trainer and fitness instructor, she strives to find the most effective method of training with limited time. A former endurance runner, she has completed 22 marathons and one ultramarathon. She now combines fitness with her passion for travel. She biked the French and Spanish Pyrenees in 2014, cycled parts of the Tour de France in 2016, and recently rode the Cols in Majorca.
