About the Business

The Pump House was taken over in 2007 by Bells Diner ex-chef Toby Gritten. Over 5 years The Pump House has flourished due to it's fine food and beautiful location on the docks. The last 2 years has been fantastic, we've been awarded 2 rosettes and a notable wine list award by the AA as well as being voted Bristol's best restaurant by the Bristol public in the local Good Food awards 2012. We are proud to be featured in the Good Food Guide and Michelin Guide 2013 amongst some of the countrys best restaurants.

Our menu evolves with the seasons, grabbing everything that's on offer to us from the local surroundings. Toby is a keen forager so the menu can change on a daily basis loaded with fresh produce picked earlier that morning.

We aim to keep pushing our food to new levels and have recently re-vamped our wine list including a much bigger selection by the glass. We have a huge range of whiskies, rums, gins and vodkas behind the bar and a revolving selection of local ales on tap.

Established in 2007.

Specialties

The Pump House specialises in using fresh seasonal, local produce with as much foraged goods on offer as possible. Our a la carte menu offers a divine selection of Classic Modern British dishes. The Pump House features 2 main dining areas. The downstairs dining area is a slightly more relaxed atmosphere, with the bar in view. The bar is always quietly buzzing and after a few visits you may start to notice a few familiar faces as we have many locals from the Hotwells area. The upstairs mezzanine dining area is a beautiful room, topped with wooden beams, original pump house features, a balcony overlooking the bar and incredible art work by local artist Lez Matthews. The Pump House has a cosy feel with candlelit tables and fresh flowers. The building has a slightly industrial feel from its period features and is filled with an abundance of local memorabilia carefully sourced by co-owner Dan Obern.

Business Owner

Toby G. (Business Owner)

Toby Gritten is a keen forager which is core to our seasonal, local menu. He takes long walks with his dog Minnie, over the Mendips, Long Ashton and the coasts of the South West getting his hands on as much as nature has to offer. As a well known face in Bristol's food and drink industry Toby is part of various events over Bristol from cooking demos to foraging walks. He now runs his own foraging courses in conjunction with Bristol's 102 cookery school. Toby is a keen collaborator and has had a lot of success with past events such as our 'Evening with the Chefs'. Over the last 6 months we have been inviting James Morton to host jazz suppers here at The Pump House, with such success we have invited him back for New Years Eve alongside a 6 course tasting menu.
