About the Business

The Papery (Bank Street) Ltd. has been at 850 Bank Street on the corner of 5th Avenue in the Glebe since 1986, and is an offshoot of the original shops in Toronto, Ontario. There is a second store in Victoria B.C. and ours here in Ottawa. Unfortunately our business was affected by a fire on Dec 26, 2022 and our 850 Bank Street location is undergoing restoration. In the meantime we are operating a smaller pop-up store nearby.

Established in 1986.

I was still fairly new to Ottawa when I opened the shop, so as the Glebe got to know us, I got to know the Glebe. That was in 1986 and it has been a wonderful home for us ever since. I studied Theatre Design at university which came in very useful in designing the store. The fixures were custom built for us and have stood the test of time. The core of our business is still greeting cards but I love to experiment with new products and departments. Right now that is socks! and art supplies! We are having a lot of fun with these new successes.
