About the Business

Thai Boat's construction started in December 2002. The present space used to be a bank. Everything was built from scratch. It took almost four months to complete the interior work and exterior signs. It is designed and done by Term, the owner and Chef, with a Thai Boat theme.

We had an open house on March 15, 2003, blessed early in the morning by a Thai Buddhist monk. Signs were officially unveiled by John Gilchrist & Dr. Lacey consulate of Thailand in Calgary.

After the open house, Term got the kitchen staffs working on the preparation for another week before opening the door to public on Saturday March 22nd, 2003. Our first day was a great success with
almost a hundred people visiting us.Our first year went by with an award winning Best New Restaurant 2003 by Calgary CBC food critic.

Recently Term took over the kitchen operation again after letting hired cooks from Thailand running the show for a few years. After updating his recipes, he now introduced new menus with more items.

Established in 2003.

Business Owner

Term C. (Business Owner)

I was born and grew up in Thailand. Originally I was trained as a mechanic. I moved to Canada in January 1983. I attended college in Edmonton and then finished my BA at university of Waterloo, Ontario. In 1991, I joined my mother and sisters starting up a Thai restaurant in dowtown Calgary. I was the manager, running the operation. After ten years at family run business, I left Calgary and went back to Thailand for six months, had a break to figure out what I wanted to do. I returned to Calgary with a plan to open up a restaurant of my own. It took two years to finally find a location I felt at home with.
