About the Business
Opened at the start of 2010 in premises that used to be a kebab shop and required complete remodelling, Tenshi has established its own intimate and quirky character and is probably the closest you are likely to come in London to the atmosphere of a small neighbourhood izakaya in downtown Osaka. The restaurant has undergone constant development. Projects for the very near future include setting up our own in-house online ordering and delivery service, and offering both Asahi and Kirin beers on tap. Expect these developments during February or March 2015.

We pride ourselves on unpretentious, honest Japanese food using only the finest ingredients and no gimmicks. Our sushi fish is carefully sourced for freshness and sustainability, and our hot food menu is very wide-ranging, taking in dishes which are rarely available in the UK such as Okonomiyaki. We recently launched own special recipe of Miso Ramen which we are very proud of. Our most popular dishes include our sushi sets, lunchtime bento boxes, tempura udon and chicken/pork katsu.

Tenshi was created by local resident Joe Mossman in response to the lack of good Japanese food in his immediate neighbourhood. Well-travelled in Japan and already a Japanese food aficionado, he recruited a very experienced team of staff including Head Sushi Chef Yasuo Sato and hall manager Kaori Minamimura, both from the Osaka area. The staff are a tight-knit group and do a great deal of the day-to-day management themselves. Joe makes regular trips to Japan to research recipes, observe trends and buy authentic decorations and equipment.
