About the Business

Sakura Grocery was opened in 1997 by Kazuo and Sakura Saita in its present convenient location. Three years later, they expanded and opened a tiny Sushi Bar which grew into one of the most popular Take-outs in Victoria.

Twenty years later, Morgan and Nami Onda were lucky enough to purchase this thriving business, and will slowly and carefully add to its menu, refine the space to create a fun, fulfilling dining experience.

Morgan Onda is a Chef with more than 35 years experience, travelling the world (Europe, the Middle East, Asia) to hone his skills. He picked up many culinary techniques and recipes while travelling through Japan with his wife Nami.

Nami Onda has more experience in Service than her youthful appearance lets on! She's been helping folks for decades and brings her skill to ensure that Sakura is a place where everyone is welcome!

We plan to bring Sakura to its full potential, and hope that you will join us on this journey!

Sakura was built over 20 years ago primarily as a Grocery store, selling Items for the Japanese kitchen. We carry; Sushi rice, Kombu, Dashi, Miso, Sauces, Tofu, Mochi, Noodles, Tea, Natto, Sushi-Grade Fish, Thinly sliced Meats, Specialty Ice Creams, Treats, Snacks, and Japanese cold Beverages. Come in and talk to us, our knowledgeable staff are happy to help! Special Orders are handled graciously... if we can find it, we will get it for you!
