About the Business

Ruxton's Trading Post is located in an historic building that straddles Ruxton Creek. Ruxton Creek served as a landmark and route for Native Americans and early 19th century explorers. One of those explorers was Frederick Ruxton and it seemed appropriate that we name our store after him.

Mike and Gretchen Graham have over 50 years combined experience in Western Americana, antiques and collectibles.  They are authors of the book, "Old Cowboy Saddles and Spurs, Identifying the Craftsmen Who Made Them" and numerous magazine articles which have appeared in Western Horseman magazine.  Gretchen and Mike are available for hire to appraise antique saddles or spurs at  appraisal events such as the Midwest Horse Fair held in Madison, Wisconsin in 2012 where over 90 items were evaluated over the course of three days.  We have appraised cowboy or indian antiques for estate purposes for several years.  Gretchen and Mike can buy or broker you antique western items or buy them from you.  Ruxton's Trading Post offers the biggest selection of unique cowboy hats and old west clothes.  We provide movie and theatre props from small items to horse drawn vehicles.  We provide decorations for western theme restaurants and Route 66 style dinners.
