About the Business

Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site began with the Native Americans and the exploers, settlers, and gold seekers who came later.

Walter Galloway was the first to formally claim the land in 1867 by filing a land patent under the 1862 Homestead Act for 160 acres. He lived on the property and worked in Old Colorado City.

In 1874, the Chambers Family purchased the property from Galloway, and named the site "Rock Ledge Ranch." During the 26 years the Chambers operated the Ranch, improvements were made to support fruit orchards, vegetable farming, a dairy, and boarding house operations.

General Palmer acquired the Ranch from the Chambers in 1900 and incorporated it into his Glen Eyrie estate. He commissioned Thomas MacLaren to design a home for his sister in law and her husband in 1907. After Palmers death in 1909, the Ranch was sold as part of his estate.

Established in 1968.
