About the Business

The OAKhouse is a Grade 2 listed building and a great example of the many historical buildings in Maldon, one of the oldest market towns in England.

So why not combine a day out in the Maldon district with lunch or an afternoon drink at the OAKhouse.
Following an extensive renovation in 2002, the OAKhouse opened its doors as the bar café you still see today. This was the invention of a group of friends who are all local to Maldon and wanted to bring a bit of bar café culture to Maldon, keeping its traditional theme, but adding their own stamp to the building.

They employed an old friend, John, who had previously been brought up in Maldon and fled to London to learn the trade, working in all sections of the field. After gaining 8 years' experience, John relished the chance to come back to his home town and become the front man at the OAKhouse.

Welcome to the OAKhouse ...... all day, every day The OAKhouse Bar Café in Maldon,Essex is described as a 'Chameleon Bar', due to its ever-changing style through the day. Start off in the morning with a wide choice of fresh Fairtrade hot drinks or breakfast where you can plan your day using our FREE WIFI service, or catch up with friends. Relax into mid morning and re-fuel with a drink, read the papers and have a naughty but nice piece of home-made cake. Move into lunchtime and enjoy either a light bite snack or a relaxing longer lunch and wash it down with one of our exciting wines, or local ales. By late afternoon and evening, the OAKhouse comes to life again, with people stopping for a post-work catch up, celebrating an occasion with friends, or just meeting up to socialise. With regular events from wine tasting, to food matching nights and live music you will discover that there is a lot more to the OAKhouse than meets the eye.
