Deep within the aromatic enclave of Boston's "Italian Restaurant Row", famed chef Salvatore Firicano is prepping for tonight's performance. Spices are smashed together. Wine-fueled flames are teased up to the heavens. And locally-sourced produce is ushered in through the rear entrance - in a manner not unlike many of their nightly boldfaced guests.

Nick Varano grew up in Boston's North End as a second generation Italian. His parents came to the United States from Calabria, Italy, and instilled a love for cooking and eating in their son. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, Nick opened Strega Ristorante & Nico Ristorante, both North End Hanover Street institutions. He is also owner of Strega Waterfront at Fan Pier and Strega Prime Italian Steakhouse in Woburn, as well as The Varano Group, a company involved in restaurants, media & consulting.
