About the Business

Nakama Toys started husband and wife team Bryan and Mary starting blogging about toys they loved. The name "Nakama" means friendship in Japanese, a theme the store attempts to replicate with each customer. The original blog focused on Japanese collectables. Soon the couple decided to try importing and selling some toys at local conventions and thats where the store idea really took off. People's excitement and love for Japanese culture made it clear Chicago needed a storefront. Three years after its founding, Nakama Toys opened its doors.

Nakama Toys specializes in new Japanese collectable figures, statues, models and mini trading figures from popular anime, video games and pop culture. We work only with well-known Japanese toy producers like Tamashii Nations, Good Smile, and Bandai to ensure the best quality. Oh, and don't forget about the yummy Japanese candy and soda.

Bryan and Mary share a love of all things nerdy.  Bryan's began collecting and playing video games as a young kid.  He loved collecting especially Transformers and He-man.  Mary started her love affair with all things Japanese when she watched Kiki's Delivery Service.  She continued to watch whatever anime she could get her hands on.  Mary's interest in collecting was sparked when she met Bryan.
