About the Business

Morgan Mays, founder of MTI Design and Build, was always an artist and a builder. At an early age his father played a major influence in giving him tools and showing him how to control size, shape, and form.

After a few years, Morgan turned to carpentry as a means to earn a more secure living. Morgan was in the Carpentry union for over 25 years where he specialized in building interiors, more specifically, office spaces, walls, ceilings, bases, doorways, and cabinets. Skills such as how to stain, how to sand, and how to create customized finishes were all key components during the creative process.

MTI looks to provide individuality in an industry where materials are frequently pre-fabricated and standard. MTI is looking to continue growth in designing and building home interiors, Lobby's, cafes, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and lounges. MTI has worked with Tory Burch, The Bridges, The Jazz Gallery, The Highline Project, and other major social places throughout New York City. This is not a showroom, it is a workshop/carpenter.

Not only is he a creative, but he has a license and formal training in carpentry to bring to the table. After filing insurance, the corporation was finally put together. Now he can take on bigger and more sophisticated work. His once artist canvas is no longer just a canvas, it is a social space that requires people and life.
