About the Business
Steve Smiddy started his career as a carpenter. He graduated from the Detroit Carpenters Apprenticeship school. The buildings and homes in Detroit are built by union and non-union carpenters. Carpenters install the doors, frames, and lock hardware, yet locksmiths are the ones who maintain them. Steve Smiddy recognized this connection and began looking for an opportunity to apprentice under a locksmith. It was not easy to learn this obscure trade since it's secrets are passed on from one generation to another through family. Smiddy had to bypass his way into this niche. He was hired by a local lock company to install doors. He slowly picked up locksmith techniques by hanging around the shop at the end of the day. Soon after, he was trained to be a locksmith. While mastering his craft, he had the idea to start his own locksmith company. He obtained the experience, and he had the perfect last name for the job. So in 2009 he found the courage to start his own company, Locksmiddy's.
