About the Business

Built in the early 1800s, it was designed by one of the great Glasgow architects, David Hamilton as a memorial to the founders - George and Thomas Hutcheson, two of Glasgow's wealthiest merchants.

Originally built to carry on the brothers' philanthropic will to establish a school and hospital, the new building quickly outgrow capacity and has since seen many guises.

Following a major refurbishment by John Baird in 1876, the original three floors were reduced to two and the dramatic double-height grand hall with lavish stained glass, wooden panelling and detailed plasterwork remains in place today.

In 1984, The National Trust for Scotland purchased the building and it was used as their office until water damage in 2008 left the building vacant. After never truly finding its purpose, the concept of Hutchesons was brought to life after a two year transformation process, opening in the summer of June 2014.

Positioned prominently between the city centre and Merchant city, Hutchesons has a bustling brasserie serving premium Scotch steaks and seafood set within the vibrant ambiance of our grand restaurant, while a classic café bar can be discovered at street level to enjoy breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea by day and specialist cocktails and champagnes by night. For more intimate get-togethers our Glenfarlcas private dining and meeting room is tucked away on our third floor. Hutchesons is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week.
