David Howie Scott, a life long foodie, opened the doors of Howies in June 1990. A passionate believer in Scottish food and that a happy team results in happy customer he lives and breathes the business. Howies ethos from day one was great value, seasonal, freshly cooked dishes to order and 22 years later Howies really is an Edinburgh Institution. David sold the business 6 years ago and when he heard it had fallen on hard times, bought it back in December 2011! Since then he has made sure things are back on track as and as we head in to 2014 the future for Howies looks very bright indeed.

Scottish, seasonal food cooked to order from our ever changing menu. Scottish local organic lamb, free range chicken, wild Scottish roe deer, cullen skink, haggis, Scottish sustainable seafood, shellfish. Good vegetarian and even vegan options. Gluten free dishes too. Childrens menu is mini versions of our main menu - we believe they deserve the best - just like their parents.

David Howie Scott always wanted to own and run his own restaurant. In1990 his wish came true, as scraped enough money together to open his very first Howies. Initially David was head chef, waiter, bottle washer and accountant with friends helping out as waiters and decorators! As time passed, he built a brilliant team of people around him all of whom are as passionate about the business as he is.
