Since it opened in 1998, Housing Works Bookstore Cafe & Bar has established itself as a New York downtown institution and tourist destination. All of our stock is donated, and we are staffed almost entirely by volunteers, so 100% of our profits go to fund Housing Works' lifesaving services.

Housing Works Bookstore has established itself as a New York downtown institution and tourist destination for the last decade. There are free and low-cost events many nights of the week, an exceptional range of books, movies, and music. We pride ourselves in being a great place to visit, meet friends, relax, read, write, and shop! Our one-of-a-kind space is available for rent, and we host weddings and special events almost every weekend. We are staffed almost entirely by volunteers and 100% of our profits go to Housing Works. The Housing Works Bookstore Venue is one of the most sought-after locations in New York City for private parties, corporate events, filmings, and weddings. You can currently donate up to two small boxes of books at the bookstore at this time. Please call the store to schedule a time for drop-off. For larger donations, please make arrangements with our in-kind department.
