About the Business

We started Hofstetter Landscaping in July of 1989, with a brand new truck, skid steer and all new tools, then we started a door to door campaign, looking for customers. I felt we did very good our first year, we where able to make all of our payments and a profit. I remember working in December and how cold it was, we would try to lift a brick and the whole pile was frozen together, we needed a hammer and chisel to separate them. We used huge blow torches and heaters to melt our base materials so we could use them. By the way that first truck, tamper, skid steer and trailer are still working, although we have six more new vehicles as well and another skid steer. Our vehicles and tools are our work horses and we take very good care of them. We have won awards for our vehicle wraps ( I must say our trucks are the prettiest in the landscaping industry and are well known in the Toronto area) We carry 5 Million dollars worth of insurance and are completely covered by WSIB. We love this job

We are highly trained and skilled, installers of Landscaping features and products. The majority of our work is in interlocking stone installations, such as Driveways, Walkways, Patios, Pool Decks and Stone Retaining Walls, both natural stone and man made product. Tree planting, shrubs, flowers, garden prep and installations are also among our specialties. Another area which we are really enjoying is the installation of ponds and water features, waterfalls, plants and fish. (very tranquil and peaceful) Outdoor Kitchens and Living Rooms are also becoming very popular. We are very happy to build fences and decks.

Rick Hofstetter is the owner of Hofstetter Landscaping. He was born in 1956 and at this time does the majority of the sales for the business, but it is not unusual to find him on the job, there is no part of this job that he won't do. Not afraid to dig, shovel or get dirty, if something needs to be done, he'll do it. Some times it become necessary to work on the job site all day and he is forced to do his sales calls at the end of the day and has to go there less than clean and presentable. He always calls the customers to explain that he will not be too clean and fragrant and if they would mind if he comes dirty, customers understand and he is always welcomed. Rick is very creative in the designing of landscaping projects and the majority of the quotes will come with a detailed drawing. He does not give a business card quote. (Price on the back of a business card) All his quotes are very thorough and detailed, you will  find that the quote is the same as the end price, no surprises.
