Hires Drive-In was founded in 1959 by Don Hale. Don was a grocer by trade. During the depression, his parents built a grocery store onto their home to help supplement the family income.

Years later, Don worked his way through school and supported his young family by operating the grocery store. Always being involved with fresh produce and quality meat through the grocery store, Don decided to become a restaurateur by opening a hamburger drive-in in Salt Lake City.

Hires Big H is proudly local and family owned and works with local businesses to provide the highest quality ingredients in their food.

Hires Drive-In was founded in 1959 by Don Hale. Don was born December 15, 1917 in Grantsville, Utah. His father, Parley, and his mother, Olive, instilled in him a love for people and the will to work. Don started working at the age of 10 at his parents' grocery store, Hale's Market, and worked 80 straight years until the age of 90, 50 of those years at his hamburger stand, Hires Drive-In. He smiled every day of his life because he so loved what he did that it never seemed like work at all.
