About the Business

Greenstreet Gardens has been a family operation from the beginning with Ray, Stacy assisted by their children. Started as a growing operation in Lothian, Maryland, Ray and Stacy soon realized that they had the perfect location for a garden center. So in the summer of 2000, they opened Greenstreet Gardens, which quickly became one of the area’s premier garden centers.

In the spring of 2012 Ray and Stacy heard of an opportunity in Alexandria, as Apple House was put on the market. Without any hesitation, they pounced on the opportunity to move into that prime location, thus entering the Northern Virginia market.

We have new shipments of perennials, house plants, trees, and shrubs coming in every day and some of the finest annuals that you have ever seen, grown on our own farm. This is the time of year to be planting your vegetables and herbs, and we are particularly proud of our selection, as we have an extensive offering of vegetables, including various varieties of each one..from heirloom to hybrid. We also have the garden tools and solutions that you need to make your garden chores almost effortless. We carry an extensive line of fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, watering accessories, vegetable and grass seed, and organic solutions. Plus, we have the knowledgable staff who are on-hand to share tips and information on how to be successful in the garden.

Ray Greenstreet started in this industry at the ripe old age of 13; his first job was that of "yard boy" for a woman who loved gardening but was wheelchair-bound.  He ultimately attended and graduated from DuPage Horticulture School in Geneva, Illinois.  After more than five years as a Ball Seed Sales Rep, Ray and Stacy purchased an existing nursery in Maryland and have developed it into the ever-evolving business it is today; Greenstreet Growers, Inc is a dynamic complex located on 65 acres and includes a gift shop and garden center retail operation, wholesale finished production and a rooting station for Ball Seed Company.
