About the Business

Gran Caffe L'Aquila was a landmark award winning caffe in Piazza Duomo in the capital of the Abruzzo region of Italy, L'Aquila. In 2007 it was named Bar D'Italia, naming it best bar and caffe in all of Italy. Tragically in 2009, there was an earthquake that destroyed the entire region of L'Aquila, Abruzzo leaving our landmark caffe destroyed. It was in 2011 that Italian-American culinary and wine director Riccardo Longo was traveling the Italian peninsula and met the original owner of the caffe, and through their collective passion for Italian culinary excellence, decided to combine their talents and move to Philadelphia to recreate the landmark caffe which we have opened here in Rittenhouse. Italian Gelato Champion Stefano Biasini, and 10 Time Wine Spectator Award Winner Riccardo Longo have collaborated to create the most authentic Italian experience in Philadelphia!
