About the Business

This is the story of Paolo and Matteo, two guys from Milano who had an idea. Let's take the heart of our tradition and fuse it with the exciting innovations happening in Italian cooking, they said. Inspired by the Roman deity Janus who looked to the future as well as the past, Giano respects tradition and embraces the future.

Enter Simone Bonelli. After 4 years at a Michelin starred restaurant in Italy, he came to NY to where it took him about 6 months to earn 2 stars from Frank Bruni at a publication you may have heard of, The New York Times. As executive chef and co-owner, Chef Bonelli blends cutting edge technique & gorgeous flavors with outstanding presentation- and for those of you who think you've seen it all, trust us, you haven't. We like to think of our little corner in the east village as quite special, and hope you will too.

Established in 2008.

Specialties

Rustic and Modern blend together in a magic atmosphere at Giano Restaurant in New York City's East Village. We use only fresh and seasonal ingredients in each of the handcrafted dishes on our traditional and contemporary menus. From a classic American brunch with a twist of Italy to indulgent desserts that are sure to delight, our one love for our customers and our food always shines through at Giano Restaurant. The Art of Food is tradition and innovation. Tradition because it is tied to culture, to history, to place, to a timeless art much like the world itself. Innovation because this involves research and experimentation and, at the same time, a bit of provocation. It's like the history of man: a look towards the future, to progress, without forgetting the experience of the past. To experiment requires knowledge; to innovate requires possession of the techniques from the past. Innovation and tradition are two sides of the same face. The face of Giano.
