Dirty Dick's was established in 1745 and is steeped in history; it is thought that its namesake was Dickens' inspiration for Miss Haversham in Great Expectations. The story goes that old Dirty Dick got his name when he was jilted by his lover (just like Miss Haversham), and so he never washed or cleaned again (just like Miss Haversham), are we seeing the connections here? Thus his famous dirty pub where his dirty warehouse used to stand is names after him and called Dirty Dick's.
