Design by Plants is a Brooklyn and Kerhonkson, NY based garden and landscape design/build group. We are architects, landscape designers, horticulturalists, builders, farmers, artists, ethnobotanists, and gardeners passionately and creatively returning nature to landscapes large and small. From small artisanal and medicinal gardens to permaculture farms and wetland restorations we design and build restorative plant environments, regenerate ecological systems and support your health, nutrition, delight and comfort needs in the garden.

15 years ago I left a Principal position as Director of Sustainable Design at a global architecture firm to better understand plants and find a way to build gardens that people could connect to. This followed 20 years of experience as an Architect, managing landmark building and sustainability planning projects that helped shape the history of sustainable building design. Our firm has now built more than a hundred gardens in Brooklyn and our work has expanded to include the Hudson Valley. I am most excited about a Field Station we are building in Kerhonkson, NY that will be dedicated to garden research, demonstration, teaching and growing natives to support our garden projects.
