About the Business

Having gained her BA Hons in Costume of Theatre & Film, Paivi went on to work as a professional seamstress with in the industry, working for high profile clients such as The Royal Opera House, Kylie Minogue, Rambert, National Television Awards and a private commission to work for Prince Charles' 50th Anniversary at Buckingham Palace. However, when the pandemic hit in 2020 and the doors to the theatres closed, Paivi's career path diverted back to fabric - a passion she's always had since running fabrics shops in London in her early 20's. Originally trading exclusively online, the business rapidly grew and a little over 2 years later Cloth Control opened its doors on Brighton's famous North Laines. Since then, the shop has become a local favourite, offering the largest selection of dressmaking fabric in the city and surrounding areas.

Stocking over 1500 dressmaking fabrics ranging from beautiful linen to glitzy sequins, cosy jersey to luxurious velvet, colourful African wax cotton to dedicated sustainable deadstock & vintage collections, our team of industry professionals are always here to welcome you and offer any guidance and advice you may need.
