About the Business

Built by Frances Grant in the 1840's, and originally named Grant's Hotel, The Laff is one of the oldest institutions in Ottawa. The first appearance of the Laff in the history books came during the Stony Monday Riots where a political uproar led to a massive brawl and stoning in the streets. People sought refuge inside the Laff. Since then, we have strived to maintain the Laff as a bar for the people. The Scott Family has owned and operated the bar since 1966, and we've gotten to know the place pretty well.

We specialize in beers, local live music, and good times. Always free cover - and we mean always! Our food menu is 95% made in house from the freshest ingredients. Our selection of beers offer an excellent range of options and prices. We have 7 draught taps, which feature local craft breweries with beer made within our area code (613 - represent!). We feature VQA wines from Ontario's Peller Estates. We still sell more quarts than anyone around - and if you want to fit in like a regular, order a Big 50! Our performers are iconic and have been playing for decades at the Laff, and in Ottawa. Find legend Lucky Ron every Saturday at 4pm. John Carroll hosts our World Famous Open Mic every Tuesday (over 10 years running) and performs a solo show every Wednesday with his signature brand of moody blues. Thursday nights are rocking and feature a different band each week. And Sunday nights, you'll find DJ Jon Deck spinning all the best hits you crave and gets the dance floor jumping. We're the ultimate Canadian, family-owned business with a history that will make you laugh. Our house motto is no stupid drinks, no stupid food, no stupid people - no exceptions!
