About the Business

Cardero was a Spanish navigator on Galiano's boat called the Mexican. His name is actually spelt Cordero and was miss spelt in mapping Vancouver. In 1859, coal was found in the harbour by her Majesty's surveying ship, The Plumper. The coal was too soft to warrant exploitation, but the bay become known as Coal Harbour, and the land that would one day be called Stanley Park was named Coal Peninsula.

In 1888, a plan for a bridge turned into a causeway that was constructed and some of the finest clam beds of Coal Harbour became part of the bottom of a fresh water lake that would be called Lost Lagoon.

Fast forward to 1997, when Cardero's Restaurant & Live Bait Marine Pub were opened at the foot of Cardero street in Coal Harbour.
