About the Business

Doozy Candles owe their design roots to the 1960's California west coast bohemian culture.

In 1969 Bruce Langer opened the first candle boutique on Toronto's Queen Street West - a hub of cultural creativity. He expanded throughout the early 1970's to include regional limited production of the candles in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Bruce left the business to pursue other opportunities.

In February 1997 when Bruce relocated to Ottawa for employment he reconnected with Greg Brayford after many years and had dinner. At dinner, Greg asked Bruce about a candle that was sitting on Bruce's table. Bruce told Greg about his candle making adventures in Toronto and Abbotsford. Greg was so impressed that he asked to be taught the process used to make the Doozy Style Candle.

The first creations were made in Greg's apartment kitchen and were gifted to family and friends. After much praise and encouragement, Greg and Bruce began to make more. Greg became an apprentice in the unique tradition.
