The Brewers Droop was started up in 1984 by Mike Ross who had been slinging his wares down at the local market for 2 or 3 years before accumulating the capital (with the help of the banks at the time - boomers, eh) to purchase a shop on the famous Gloucester Road.

It was a small place but back then the home brew scene was (by any modern perspective) dismal and contrived.

Sure, you could buy the kits and buckets - you could even buy home brewing supplies at Boots! But the concentrates were of a basic quality and if you were lucky, you might've been able to produce a relatively palatable brew at home as long as you kept a keen eye on your ambient temperatures and were anal about cleaning (you still need to be anal about cleaning, by the way).

Anyway, the point is; it wasn't great. But people were poorer and beer was boringer so people didn't know much different!

We sell beer, mead, cider, spirits and fruit wine but most notably, we have been selling home brewing equipment and giving brewing advice to locals and those from further afield for almost 40 years! come and top up your flagon with cider, takeaway some beer in a growler or sit in our sun-trap garden and drink some cold, fresh beer, or mead from a horn!
