Joe immigrated from Taiwan at the age of 7months old.  He grew up in New York city near Columbia University on the West Side of Manhattan.  He got his first cooking job as a short order cook at Duffy's Tavern in Paterson, NJ in 1995.  He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 2000.  He has worked at Larry Forgione's An American Place and Danny Meyer's Blue Smoke in NYC.  Joe moved to Charlotte, NC and intended to open a restaurant with a friend in 2008, but decided not to because of the bad economy.  Joe stayed in Charlotte and worked as a restaurant manager at HMS Host in Charlotte Douglas airport until he opened Bang Bang Burgers.  Joe would describe his cooking style as American Asian fusion with a foundation rooted in classical French cuisine.
