It is south-west of the city centre, but to the east of the River Soar. It was formerly a separate village, but now incorporated Aylestone into the Borough of Leicester, Aylestone covers Aylestone Village, The ward borders Freemen and Eyres Monsell wards and is in the parliamentary constituency of Leicester South. Aylestone had a population of 11,151 as of the 2011 census.

Aylestone is a suburb of Leicester, situated the east of the River Soar. It was formerly a separate village, but the growth of the city since The Leicester Extension Act of 1891 incorporated Aylestone into the Borough of Leicester. The Indian curry is now The British curry. The UK now celebrates National Curry Week every October. Although curry is an Indian dish modified for British tastes, it's so popular that it contributes more than £5bn to the British economy. In 2001 British foreign secretary Robin Cook referred to Chicken Tikka Masala as a "true British national dish".
