As a homeowner in the West Island I also was faced with increased heating costs for my dual-heating system (oil+ heat pump). Heating contractors told me to convert to electric or gas heating to cut heating cost. ROI calculations resulted in no real savings. Using my electronics background I designed a working prototype of a TRI-ENERGY™ system consisting of heat-pump, modulating electric plenum heater and oil furnace for use below -12°C only. Results were amazing, oil use was down 70% the first year while low cost Hydro DT rate electricity use was up only marginally due to increased heat-pump use and electric heater turning-on once in a while to assist the heat-pump. In all net heating cost savings amounted to 55% compared to the previous year. Realizing there was a demand by homeowners for this product I started the company in 2011. Building on the TRI-ENERGY success the company now markets a growing number of other home heating solutions including for hydronic and electric heating.
